Active Project

Sulawesi Economic Development Strategy Project (SEDS)

In 2012, Humber began a partnership with seven universities in Sulawesi, Indonesia to implement a five-year, $4.6 million initiative to develop the partner institutions’ capacity to delivery entrepreneurship education and business support services – critical tools in helping to alleviate poverty and create employment opportunities in the region. Since its inception, SEDS has conducted three workshops focused on applied entrepreneurship curriculum development and a capacity consolidation activity with 28 Indonesians here in Canada. The focus of the project has now turned to supporting the partners in setting up Business Support Centres which will provide training, counselling, and consulting services to small and medium enterprises, as well as students’ business start-ups. The final stage of the project will involve working with various other institutions and stakeholders throughout Sulawesi for continued networking and sharing of best practices. These results are contributing to improving the quality and responsiveness of Indonesian universities in teaching, promoting, and supporting the development and growth of SMEs in a gender equitable and environmentally sustainable manner.

The SEDS project is funded by the Government of Canada through the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development and Humber College.

It is in line with the Indonesian government’s Five-Year Medium Term Development Plan (2012-2014) and with Canada’s Aid Effectiveness Agenda.
